Fandom Ableism in the MCYT Community
[Edited 14 June 2021]
One thing Iâve noticed about the MCYT (Dream SMP, specifically) community on both Tumblr and Twitter is that when informed of things that are ableist, or harmful to ND people, a lot of people ignore the post/tweet, derail it or actively fight against it.
âIâm ND so I canât be ableistâ is a common statement, which is blatantly untrue. Even Iâve used ableist terms and phrases before, without realising they were harmful. So as a neurodivergent person, with autism, BPD, depression/anxiety, dyslexia, psychosis & brain damage*: hereâs some common ableist things both CCs and fandom say almost constantly**.
*note that not every neurodivergent person will agree with me on these, but these are commonly ableist things people have previously talked about online, and/or have been discussed between me and other neurodivergent friends. No minority can ever speak for the entire group.
**note that a lot of these are common outside the MCYT community as well, and that some of these are just considered societally acceptable. This isnât okay, but it explains why a lot of people donât recognise jokes or comments like these are wrong, and it means that itâs not a direct moral failing of people that they donât immediately or directly recognise these comments as wrong.
Now, letâs get into the things you might not have realised are potentially ableist:
1. Use of âPsychopath/Psycho/Sociopath/Schizoâ and other demeaning terms for people with mental illnesses as insults, or to describe characters who are considered villainous. Psychopath/Psycho/Sociopath are already terms that people with ASPD dislike using, even not as an insult, but using these terms to describe people or characters who you disagree with or see as villainous only contributes to the villainisation of people with ASPD and other mental illnesses. Using c!Dream as an example: Dream as a character is not confirmed to have any of these mental illnesses. He is, however, commonly labeled as psychotic/psychopathic, incapable of any kind of compassion.
He is also a character that fandom largely insists that nobody is allowed to sympathise with. This is a huge issue, and has hurt a lot of people, especially people with low empathy, or mental illnesses that cause them to relate to some of c!Dreamâs actions (e.g. pulling away from all his friends, desperately grasping at straws to gain control of situations etc). Insisting that these characters are characters itâs impossible to sympathise with, all while calling them psychotic/psychopathic/sociopathic, is extremely harmful, and I hope this post draws attention to that.
Hereâs another post that talks about that.
2. Use of the term âfreakâ, in general. As an insult, âfreakâ has been typically used to insult neurodivergent people, people with visible physical disabilities (ex. âfreakshowâ, and the term was reportedly created with the intent of insulting people with physical disabilities), or people who display any kind of abnormal/atypical social behaviour/physical aspects â people who are usually ND people who lack a diagnosis or people with physical disabilities. Recent usage has come to mean âpeople who do things that hurt other peopleâ, but this is harmful as well; using words like âfreakâ or âweirdoâ which mean âsocially atypical behaviourâ to refer to people who are actually doing things that hurt other people conflates the two, and often has a side effect of hurting disabled people who see it.
3. Calling ND ccs like Technoblade monotone/emotionless. While the term âmonotoneâ isnât ableist in and of itself, the fact that itâs being used against a neurodivergent man who emotes in a different way to neurotypical people rubs a lot of ND people the wrong way. Iâve partially discussed this here, in a tweet responding to a person who said that c!Technoblade, quote, âhas no human capabilities like emotion for exampleâ. This, however, is not something contained to c!Technoblade â one of the most common jokes in this fandom is how rare it is to hear emotion in Technobladeâs voice.
The issue with that is that neurodivergent people almost universally agree that Technoblade emotes perfectly fine, and, in fact, emotes more freely and clearly than a lot of others do. Hence, calling him monotone perpetuates the idea of ND people as emotionless/less able to be hurt/less expressive, which often hurts us. It also contributes to the dehumanisation of ND people â related to how ND symptoms are most often seen in robots or monsters in shows â and is generally extremely harmful, on top of being untrue.
4. Related to point 3: the infantilisation of ND ccs like Tubbo and Dream, usually paired with assigning âcaretakersâ of their friends, like Tommy and George. This is about the posts that spread like âomg, Tommy helps Tubbo with his dyslexia, thatâs so cuteâ or âomg George is so patient with Dream, I could never sit through thatâ on videos of Dream vocally stimming because of his ADHD. This is another post that talks about this, but I wanted to talk more about why this is harmful here.
4a) With Tubboâs dyslexia, from someone with dyslexia, it isnât harmful to correct his spelling and move on. Personally, I think this is helpful â others will think itâs condescending, because not all ND people are the same â but as the above linked post mentions, this is not what Tubboâs twitch chat does. This is not what the comments say. Itâs all things about how itâs âso cuteâ that Tubbo canât spell, how Tommy/Ranboo are âso patientâ with correcting him. This is rooted in the need to constantly watch over ND people while acting like we can't live our lives without someone having us under constant vigilance. It feels like savior-complex ableism, like people are trying so hard to not be ableist that they spin back around to hurting us instead. And it feels like we are being treated like children. Like we are lesser than, and need to be monitored/watched over.
4b) Similarly to what people do with Tubbo, the comments on posts about Dreamâs vocal stimming are often full of people calling George âpatientâ for âdealing with itâ, or claiming they âwouldnât be able to handle itâ. This is inherently ableist. Theyâre praising George for basic human decency towards ND people, and claiming in the same breath that they wouldnât be able to do that themselves. And then thereâs these.
These comments infantilise Dream â claiming he âwouldnât be able to stop/calm downâ without Georgeâs help, implying heâd âspiral out of controlâ or claiming âeveryone is now my childâ. Itâs all related to the infantilisation of ND people, and the belief that without help/a caretaker we cannot take care of ourselves.
5. The way people treat ccs who likely have undiagnosed neurodivergencies, like Wilbur. Wilbur has openly admitted on stream before that his parents considered getting him an autism diagnosis. He also openly admits on stream that he has habits he doesnât understand why he does, and hyperfixates on things for months at a time and doesnât know why. Posts like this have gone around Tumblr, in which Wilbur displays blatantly ND traits.
And fandom generally calls him weird for expressing those traits. This video where he talks about eating sand because he likes the texture? Thatâs an ND trait. This video where he talks about his irrational hatred for anteaters? While mostly a joke, irrational hatred of something when you canât explain/understand/articulate why is also a common ND trait. He spends 20 minutes during a Philza stream info-dumping about self-sustaining ecosystems (sharing the photo, because I think itâs really cool) and fandom begins calling them âWilburâs weird jarsâ. Itâs demeaning to people who infodump, and as a ND person who hyperfixates and infodumps itâs really upsetting to see. Itâs also upsetting to see other ND traits being called âweirdâ or âfreakyâ & made out to be soley some funny joke for NT people to laugh at us about.
Additionally: Itâs strange to me that people think itâs okay to make fun of ND traits just because they know that or perceive that the person theyâre making fun of is NT. Itâs still making fun of ND traits. Itâs still insulting ND people. Itâs still ableist as hell. Why is it okay just because the person is NT?
6. Implying that c!Ranbooâs enderwalking is inherently violent. Ranboo has shown us time and time again that the enderwalk state isnât a violent state. That the enderwalk state isnât a seperate version of c!Ranboo that does horrific things. Why, then, is it so common to imply that Ranboo would be violent and hurt people why heâs enderwalking?
It comes back to the perception of c!Ranboo as a character with âtwo halvesâ, or as a character with DID. Ranboo has made it clear that his character does not have DID, but this headcanon about his character persists, and it persists in a way that is directly harmful to people with DID â and to people who dissociate or sleepwalk. We do not commit horrific acts while we dissociate, while weâre sleepwalking, because the majority of the time weâre just checked out, our body is on autopilot. Insinuating that we do is harmful. Insinuating that Ranboo has âanother halfâ thatâs inherently violent or evil is harmful to people with DID. Iâm not going to ask you to stop writing these headcanons etc, but please consider the effect you have on people before you do.
7. Related to point 6: the perception of c!Ranboo as âsoftâ and âcuteâ and/or perfectly moral because of his canonical anxiety. This is really harmful, and comes once again from the infantilisation of disorders like anxiety and depression. Ranboo has made clear time and time again that his character isnât moral, and in fact is extremely inconsistent. Heâs portrayed his character as inconsistent, as someone who hurts his friends unintentionally and often due to his want to please everyone, and yet heâs constantly seen as âsoft/pure/the only moral oneâ because of his anxiety causing to have repeated and consistent spirals on-screen. These spirals are not healthy. They donât indicate his âperfect moralsâ or make him more moral than anyone else on the SMP. Please stop infantilising people with anxiety, itâs really hurtful.
8. Implying that c!Technoblade is inherently a violent person because of his voices. Iâll admit here: my hallucinations are visual. I do not get auditory hallucinations, and I cannot speak for people who do. But many people have spoken out about this, and discussed how talking about Technoblade as an inherently violent character because of his voices is harmful, and a stereotype of people with schizophrenia.
Technobladeâs character is, in and of itself, inherently a stereotype (despite the fact that his chat are more likely to be a supernatural entity than a symptom of a disorder such as schizophrenia) in that the idea of âhearing voices that encourage violenceâ is a stereotype of people with schizophrenia. As an actual symptom, is a very uncommon one. More common auditory hallucinations for people with schizophrenia or psychosis are, reportedly, whispers or unrelated conversation. One of my friends hears screaming.
But the issue is with the implication that c!Technoblade is âdriven to violenceâ by the voices. Canonically, he has dealt with the âbloodlustâ of chat by grinding withers. Heâs perfectly capable of being peaceful, even with âvoices pushing for violenceâ, and heâs perfectly capable of being violent without the âvoicesâ influence. Itâs the connotations and the history that fandom has in demonising and villainising c!Technoblade for even having the âvoicesâ in the first place, and acting having them makes him inherently violent and unstable. Thereâs precedent for that already in society, and itâs not okay to perpetuate it.
[Edit: as of 22/05/2021, I do experience auditory hallucinations, and I can confirm that I am not any more violent, and the voices I hear donât push me to violence. The clearest one just said âclickâ in my ear.]
9. Jokes about brain damage and the use of âbrainrotâ as a term. I made a post about how common jokes about brain damage are here, and I would like to reiterate bits of it.
Jokes like these are really really normalized in modern society. Iâm sure a lot of you didnât even register it as wrong, and that isnât a moral failing! Itâs a norm in society, and that means the majority of people arent going to register it as something hurtful, because itâs said so often. But it does still hurt. The idea of using a disability as an insult is really harmful and it feels dehumanizing, like our disability makes us lesser, something that should be laughed at.
âBrainrotâ as a term originated in Skyrim, as a disease that literally rotted your brain. However, as a term, it has very similar connotations to âbrain damagedâ and has been used in similarly joking and insulting ways. Itâs something that feels really off to me and other neurodivergent people to see used by neurotypical people. It even sometimes feels uncomfortable when used by neurodivergent people, even if itâs used in positive ways. I know quite a few people who have removed it from their vocab completely because of the connotations, and I have personally done the same. Once again, I am just asking you to please consider your words before you use them.
10. Calling c!Wilbur during his Pogtopia Arc âVilburâ. Yes, he was a villain. Yes, he hurt people. But c!Wilbur during the Pogtopia Arc only has one major difference from c!Wilbur during the LâManburg Arc: a visible depiction of mental illness, specifically paranoia and psychosis. Treating him as a seperate person and calling that seperate person âVilburâ comes across as extremely hurtful, and contributes to the villainisation of mentally ill people. His mental illness does not excuse him from hurting people, but calling c!Wilbur âVilburâ upsets a lot of us, because wether or not itâs intended, it feels reductive, hurtful, and insulting.
If you got to the end of this post, thank you so much for reading. I hope that this helped you recognise things that you might not have known were ableist, and that you consider what Iâve said here. I also know that I havenât addressed everything ableist thatâs spread through the MCYT fandom community, so if youâre ND and have something youâd like to add, please feel free.

29 Things I Think Allistic People Need To Hear
From an autistic person
Not my usual content but I felt it needed to be said.
Saying âeveryone is a little autisticâ is really hurtful. Yes, everyone has their struggles but these struggles are far different for autistic people. Saying everyone experiences it is invalidating & harmful.
Being graded on eye contact & standing still is wrong. Iâm pretty sure at one point or another weâve had a project we were graded on & one of the grades was eye contact & not fidgeting. These things are extremely hard for autistic people & they are practically second nature. Itâs like holding in a sneeze.
Stim & figget toys in schools. Of course fidget spinnerâs & stim cubes can be bought & should be bought by anyone. If you want one, get one. But the way schools are banning them is crazy. They are very necessary for autistic people & itâs so much harder for them when schools ban their use.
QUITTTTT BABYING US!! We arenât âuwu babiesâ. We are humans. We are perfectly capable of functioning without allistic peopleâs pity & looking down on us. We are our own people that donât need a hand to hold in every damn situation. We arenât cute because of it. ďżź
Listen to autistic people. Everyone is all for advocating for people until that group of people want to advocate for themselves. So shut up & listen once & maybe you can learn something you didnât know.
Creative writing in class is difficult. You donât know how many bad grades Iâve gotten on because I canât think of a good story out of my ass. Itâs extremely hard for autistic people. Please give us a prompt itâs more helpful than you know.
Role playing in class. I think weâve all had to do something where we research a famous person & have to assume their identity. This is again, so hard for autistic people. Itâs hard enough for us to be ourselves. Most of us canât understand these actives enough.
Slurs. Quit saying retard. Itâs not an insult. Itâs not funny. Itâs offensive & every time you use it youâre hurting a disabled person & spreading harmful stereotypes. Itâs not just a word. Itâs not just a bad word. Itâs a slur. Same as the f word or any other slur. Donât use it.
People talking over us. No I dont mean just in conversations. Although that is another issue. I mean organizations like autism speaks that put words into autistic peoples mouths instead of letting them speak for themselves.
Stop making fun of our special interests. Whether you find anime cringey or think an adult loving Aladdin is childish just stop it. These things being extreme joy to us. They make us happy in a word that we donât understand. So just leave us alone & let us be happy.
Donât stare at us if weâre stimming. Especially in public. If you see me flapping my hands. Donât stare. If you hear me humming quietly, donât judge. These activities arenât for your viewing pleasure. Theyâre for autistic people to regulate & express how theyâre feeling.
Normalizing ableism. Itâs so normalized. Whether itâs phrased like âsuffers from autismâ or how regularly âretardâ is used in classe; ableism is so often over looked especially by adults. There are no many micro aggressions they are just passed off as us not having a thick enough skin. When in reality itâs really damaging.
People first language. If you ever correct someone by saying âno, theyâre a PERSON with autism. Not an autistic personâ. Literally shut up. Weâre autistic. Weâre people. Being autistic doesnât make us any less human so you donât need to make it seem like it does. Weâre still human no matter our disably. People donât have to be reminded of this.
Using words like psychopath & sociopath. Calling autistic people these things just because you donât understand us is disgusting. If you donât understand these terms donât use them. Just because we arenât good at showing empathy in some cases doesnât make us âpsychopathsâ.
Tone indicators. This is both the over use & not using them thatâs an issue. Saying things like â/j /hj /sarcasm /srs /lhâ all in one post defeats the whole damn purpose of them. & not using any at all especially when joking around or using sarcasm can lead to a lot of misunderstanding. Itâs not that hard to use one or two at the end of a post. /srs
Picky eating. Literally stop making fun of autistic people for not liking a lot of foods or ordering the same thing at every restaurant. A lot of textures & flavors are very bothersome to autistic people. They can cause overstimulation or even panic. Just let us be. So I eat mac & cheese 4 times a week. I didnât know it effected you so much.
âUgh youâre so annoying you canât ever get a jokeâ. No hearing that is whatâs annoying. Tones are hard for us to understand so while most people pick up on it autistic people are more likely to read too much into it or take it seriously. Itâs simple to use tone indicators in text or even to say âIâm jokingâ. It wonât make your joke less funny. Itâll just help us understand more.
Be specific if you want things from us. Donât just say âhey I need a pencilâ. Or âthe dishwasher needs put awayâ. Most likely weâll just be like, yeah, ok, and? Be specific please. Say things like âcan I borrow a pencil?â or âcan you undo the dishwasher?â.
Faces seeming to look weird. A lot of us having facial stims that can alter our faces. Whether itâs excessive blinking, eyebrow raising, or face scrunches. Donât ask us whatâs wrong with our face or what we are doing. For me, because of my facial stims & tics my eyes/eyebrows are permanently uneven. Donât bring it up.
Classroom behavior charts are horrible. Autistic people donât behave the same as allistic people. Simple as that. What they see as ok behavior, others donât. & some times they donât realize these behaviors will get them in trouble.
Police brutality. Especially in black or brown autistic people. Itâs so common that people call the police on autistic people stimming in public because they are seen as dangerous. & when these autistic people canât understand whatâs going on or canât make eye contact they are labeled as more suspicious. Especially black autistic people. Just look at Elijah McLean.
Feeling dumb. Especially in schools or other scholarly conversations. Some autistic people arenât able to keep up or fully understand everything thatâs being said or presented. Which leads to us feeling dumb. Give us time to process or aso questions please.
Feeling robotic. Youâve most likely heard autistic people being compared to robots at one point or another. Whether thatâs for the impaired ability to establish empathy or something else itâs an extremely negative & hurtful stereotype. Especially in media.
Saying âI forgotâ is a valid excuse. There is so much going on in our heads. So much to process & remember. We forget things. Everyone forgets things. Especially autistic people. Please donât yell at us for always forgetting to do the dishes. Itâs not like we chose to forget.
The harmful effects of the vaccines cause autism jokes. Aside from the whole anti vaxers debate, perpetually the idea that we shouldnât be vaccinated because it causes autism is disgusting. Itâs treating autism like a disease. Like the person who has it isnât worthy. Or that autism is so chronic it will ruin everything. Itâs like people avoiding cheese burgers because itâs rumored they make you ginger. Itâs preposterousďżź. ďżź
Yelling at autistic people for struggling to want to learn new concepts/concepts at all. This not only goes for in school but in just normal conversation. Itâs hard for autistic people to grasp things they donât have an interest in learning. So please donât yell at us for not understanding everything about a band that we donât care about, we would if we could. It might not seem like a big issue but it happens more than youâd think.
Intrusive thoughts. (Tw: rape mention & violence) Most of the time autistic people experience extreme spells of intrusive thoughts âomg heâs going to rape you image him raping youâ or âstab yourself in the side right nowâ or much worse. & when autistic (and other) people try to talk about it they are labeled crazy or insane. Itâs a normal occurrence to have these kinds of thoughts. We donât want to. But they happen. Thatâs why theyâre called intrusive.
Executive disfunction. This is basically when autistic people are views as lazy but we physically & mentally just canât. Where tasks as seemingly simple as going to get a glass of water feels like a mountain to autistic people. Itâs not that we are lazy. We physically & mentally canât work up to it.
Class rank & graduation requirements are unfair. Autistic people socialize differently. Itâs just a fact. Our brains work differently in classes & outside of it. We could be working our asses off to understand our English class book, but we get an F. Not to mention how most schools require community service hours to graduate. Yes community service is good but it can be very hard for autistic people.
Please feel free to add on but a lot of these are drawn from personal frustrations. Please listen to autistic & other disabled people more. All these also applies to those with ADHD/ADD or any other mental illness where the situations apply. Youâre all valid & amazing.
I love you all. đ

Hey, this shitâs back. Apparently the NTs arenât done with thinking weâre sinless children.
So whoâs ready to lose more brain cells? No one? Too bad. Here we go.
(CW: Ableism, infantilization, functioning labels, Trump, extremely bad grammar and spelling)
-Every day, in every way!
It broke my heart last night.
My kiddo's 28, but she's an adult with Autism. Though her IQ is through the roof, she doesn't want to believe some people are bad. But last night, we talked.Trump's evil broke through to her & It was like innocence lost!
-I have a soft spot for people with Autism. Â We arenât worthy of their creativity, intelligence and innocence
-The innocence of people with autism is truly incomparable, it's their raw emotion that's sets them apart from the rest of the world.
@realDonaldTrump
hope you can meet Ganesh. #helpganeshmeettrump
-I love being around people with Autism. They radiate pure energy and innocence.
-Well, as someone who lives with people with autism, I often feel many such behaviours can be traced to a lack of social awareness rather than actual stupidity. I'd always rather assume innocence and unawareness than stupidity. (Though a few spam us deliberately, granted!)
-One thing I know about people with Aspergers is, they dont lie, they are often shy at 1st, but once they know you, they arent the type you ask "does my butt look big in this" coz they'll tell you outright that if does with such innocence & charm.
-So cute. It portrays the Child like Innocence that people with Autism, tends to have
-âChildren with autism are angels who lost their way to heaven and fell down on earth.â
For thousands of angels on this planet, music might be a therapy. Â
A 16-year-old ocarina performer with autism touches peopleâs hearts for his clear eyes and smile. https://bit.ly/3uJ5rGw
-hello  My granddaughter has ASD , autism and adhd, I will always talk to special angels . I use to work with special Olympics children. special angels are a beautiful bunch of people.
-Sometimes angels are disguised as kids with special needs to teach us how to be better people. . #autism #autismparenting #autismawareness #autismmom #autismfamily
-Thank you so very much! My son is now 25 and there was zero support for parents of children with autism. We were told we were cold motherâs and that was the http://reason.So we stood up spoke with ferocious love we have for our angels &changed the way people understood it
-People with Autism are extremely intelligent, they are incredibly humorous, genuine, kind and adorable
I see you being strong and talented everyday, simultaneously inspiring everyone else around you
-Heartbreaking I work with young people with autism! They are probably the most adorable human being who doesnât deserve this!
-My first time as well from rain man which I loved ,now I know there are so many different issues with autism and they have very complex needs but are adorable people just different.
-Taking things literally is a common trait in people with Autism. Also, yes. It's absolutely adorable.
-âIâm a psychiatrist for people with learning disabilities â #psychiatrist
I provide voice to the most unheard , unseen but most adorable group of our community.
#choosepsychiatry #DownSyndrome #Autism
-People with Autism are so pure man
-So nice and Iâm sure he had a good day with you! Autism victims are so pure and innocent! Wish more people understood! I have no one close to me with Autism but I do promote Autism Awareness as my Aspie friend
@NASCARSammy
. Follow him at http://nascarsammy.com he is amazing!
-When I was in school I usually helped the kids with autism or just playing with them they are so pure and the most kindest people on earth they literally have no hate to others they are just so fun to be with and it angers me when people use it as a joke..
-kids with autism are so pure, they are so smart and deserve to have support to keep on going just like any other kid. Also all the people that make autism jokes.. I do get offended and Iâm not afraid to say it. To know that people are saying it as an insult breaks my heart
-Omg
kids/adults with autism brings me joy to my heart
their so cute and adorable
-you work with autistic adults? My little nephew suffers from autism, he's so adorable!
-Lmaooo i teach a virtual class targeted for teens and young adults with autism but the class usually ends up being for the adults
but theyâre so cute I love them
-Iâm watching love on the spectrum and itâs so cute. I miss working with adults who have autism or a learning disability. They made work sooo much fun
-Love on the Spectrum about adults with autism trying to find a partner. So cute
-I challenge them to care adult  children with autism for a week. Can see how cute & fun this special identity is.
-So cute. But seriously, check the child for Autism. I ran a group for adults with Asperger Sydrome. Nearly every one liked playing in puddles. I'm not a parent though, not sure if this is true for most children.
-My precious friend Hunter,++cursed with the disease autism I hope we all pray for all the little children who are sick and affected by any disease and adults too GOD bless them all+++++++++++++(((
-Hello to Mr.&Mrs. Richard Engel.
I to. Have a special needs son.
He is a low functioning Adult Toddler with Autism and Retardation. So believe me when I say. I know what you are going through especially Mrs Engels. I pray Godâs blessings on your precious child.
-Worked with pure little souls like this, and now with DD adults who are just as much without guile and 2 grandsons with autism ..I see that The Good Lord hand picks VERY special parents to entrust His precious most vaunerable lil ones to! What u love reveals who you are, Ryan!
-The Championâs Club Walk and Roll Sat. Was so precious. Children and adults in wheelchairs and some running and playing on blow-ups. So sweet and amazing what God can do with a child with autism or Down Syndromeâs or a birth  defect. I salute the parents. Some are single.
-Those are the most amazing moments. Iâve taught kids and young adults with autism for over 11 years, and itâs those little snippets in time that are the most precious.
-Kids with Autism are precious angels. The adults too.
-My adult son with #autism loves Christmas. He's not little, doesn't run around, but believes in Santa. Precious. #memories
#people with autism are innocent#uwu#smh#autism#autistic#actuallyautistic#actually autistic#sweet and savage autistic

What is your favorite relationship(s) in the show (romantically or platonically, doesnât matter!)
Anon you will regret opening pandoraâs box. Or not. In any case, this post is going to be very long because Iâm full of love. Also, anything marked romantic does not need to be romantic for me to lose my shit over them. In no particular order, either. Just in the order I thought of them.
1. The Black-eyed trio
Characters: Otto, Sparx, and Gibson.
Type: Platonic, Romantic,
Explanation: These three are grouped together by virtue of not being obscenely powerful and serving more practical uses on the team. Also, their eyes are all the same color. Besides the poetic connections of the colors of their design, they were alone in the robot together while the other three monkeys were out training.
Sparx and Gibsonâs interactions give me life, going from playful jabs to genuine fighting right back to ride-or-die is amazing. The beginning of Night Of Fear, the battles in Brothers In Arms, and a bunch of small moments throughout the series are wonderful for this.
I could write an essay about Otto and Gibson, and someone else already has, but Iâll summarize it as ADHD autism solidarity with a side of Shut The Fuck Up Gibson. They care about each other and learn to respect each other in a way thatâs better for both of them. I know a real-life Gibson to my Otto and learning that sheâs just pretentious and doesnât really hate anyone, and figuring out that weâre both equally brilliant and incredibly similar has made life a million times better.
Otto and Sparx donât have as much development as Gibson with both of them, but their jokes together and general trust is amazing. Sparx is the dumb monkey and Otto supports him in his himbo endeavors.Â
These three together make an unstoppable technical team, and the only reason they probably couldnât be a superhero team on their own is because of the raw power and fun dynamics brought by the other half of the team.Â
Romantically, these three would make the DUMBEST polycule ever. There is no true mediator here. Itâs three dumbasses figuring out how they could possibly share a twin-sized bed when they have the ability to just make a bigger bed. Gibson calculates the most efficient 3 monkey makeout and none of them follow the statistics. They all give Chiro equally useless and conflicting advice on homework. Trying to give them a mediator in the polycule just makes me go back to shipping polymonkeys because I literally canât decide if Antauri or Nova go better with them.
2. Quiet trust and encouragement
Characters: Otto, Antauri
Type: Platonic, Romantic
Explanation: When Otto is being dismissed by the other monkeys, or by the show itself, Antauri is usually the first to say âthatâs bullshit, Otto is wonderfulâ. Circus Of Ooze is a notable example, but there are little moments in other seasons as well.Â
I just love the idea of the historically MOST SERIOUS and strongest monkey, sometimes even elevated to god-like status by some fanworks... paired with the monkey that has been infantilized and disrespected to no end. I personally like making Antauri have to lean on Otto, just to subvert that even further.Â
Beyond spite, I ship this simply because I like their dynamic. Antauri needs someone to ground him with more tactile physical things, and Otto needs someone to share his more nebulous thoughts I canât imagine the others listening to. I love them.
Also, I want Antauri to unlock his true dumbass potential. He has the abilities, but not the will. Be silly with Otto. I want to hear him snort-laugh.
I literally forgot all the silver monkey stuff but I got three fics about that you know I go nuts over mechanic x robot shit.
3. The monkeys and their human son.
Characters: Chiro, Antauri, Nova, Sparx, Gibson, Otto
Type: Familial
Explanation:Â This family gives me joy. They were forced together through astronomical means and they made the best of it.Â
Everyone living in the robot is absolutely fucked up. They help each other in the darkest of times. They lift each other up when itâs light. They are a perfect team and nobody can be missing without it feeling wrong. But they can add people!
âGirl Troubleâ as a concept is AMAZING to me but my secondhand embarrassment is so strong that I hate the episode. But never once is any of the monkeys resentful of Chiro. Not even Mandarin is like âwow I wish he didnât take my placeâ no heâs also struck with the urge to nurture this kid to his fullest potential. Whether you see the team as a bunch of older siblings or 4 dads and a mom doesnât really matter, theyâre a family.
I mean, this also has a sprinkling of shipping all the monkeys in a really domestic way because I like seeing my optimal future in characters I like, but like literally all of these, it doesnât need to be romantic for me to go nuts. I just think it would be fun to throw just a big monkey wedding or whatever. And funnier for Antauri to go âChiro Iâm having a baby. The baby is youâ and holding up adoption papers because on the principle of Toby âRadiationâ Fox I love that joke, especially when made much less weird than the original context.
I have a set of characters who is just 5 people in a polycule raising kids and living life because I really love this concept as a family.
4. Evil Coworkers
Characters: Mandarin, Sakko
Type: Romantic, Platonic,
Explanation: Why the hell are these two, in particular, working together? SK couldâve put Mandarin with literally anybody else and he chose what on the surface appears to be the LEAST compatible person on the account that theyâre both monkeys. Some bitter asshole who now looks like the epitome of toxic masculinity and this tiny pink pet who used his femininity both as an advantage and a style. Theyâre different but it ends up working really well for both of them because theyâre different in ways that cover each otherâs bases. Itâs wonderful. Pink and Orange go well together. Green and Purple go well together. Mandarin and Sakko go well together. Also, they clearly trust each other. During almost the entirety of âHidden Fortressâ Sakko was presumably just chilling inside of Mandarinâs armor. Mandarin trusted him enough to have Sakko in a place where heâs able to mess with his cybernetics, and Sakko trusted Mandarin enough to go into the battlefield with him and probably get tossed around.
If they were both human and in a more modern media, then they would definitely be shipped in the straightest way you can get without actually being straight. The Straightest Gay Ship.Â
5. A Witch and her Accidental Evil Coworker
Characters: Skelemandarin, Valeena.
Type: Platonic, Romantic,Â
Explanation: These two have been through some shit. Skelemandy was made to serve Skeleton King only to have that purpose yanked away from him. Valeena was groomed to idolize and serve Skeleton King for nearly her entire life. They were forced together by SHEER CHANCE and they both hated it. Arguably they both died at some point.Â
They both have absolutely NOBODY they can trust so letâs make them trust each other. All hilarity and sweetness comes from that.Â
Their dynamic is so good that I have them on a blog for a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FANDOM and people love them with no context.Â
This is the only cross-species ship I have (besides chinmay and the antauri ships but that doesnât count), but the fact that Skelemandy isnât actually a monkey and needs no cybernetic assistance to be human-level sentient makes it a lot less weird. Just put them on equal ground power-wise (like by nerfing Valeenaâs magic) and you have the ingredients for bonding.Â
They have like, no cute moments in canon, but thatâs why we have fics and art. They have potential. I want them to help each other figure out who they are without their purpose. I want them to survive this horrible life together. I want them to figure out how to trust again. I want a lot but Valeena is fucking dead.
But she doesnât have to be.
(Also Valeena is REALLY HOT and Skelemandarin is just me as a monkey)
6. Gay Dads
Characters: The Alchemist, Captain Shuggazoom
Type: Romantic, Platonic
Explanation: Oh my stars. Oh null. Oh me oh my hhougfhfakjghf. These two have the angst of Mantauri but on crack.Â
They only appeared in about two episodes each and all three episodes are top tier. They call each other âFriendâ multiple times in their shared episode. THEYâRE FRIENDS!!!!!!!!! The face Al makes when he realizes that Cap is visiting makes me really happy. The fact that Cap had this whole Batman Double Life thing and he shows the Alchemist BOTH OF THEM is amazing. The alchemist is a hermit living in the woods and he lets Cap into that life.Â
There isnât a lot shown, much less than everything else here. But that makes every single fanfic so much richer since theyâre almost completely based on headcanons. Friends who have a mutual crush on each other but are No Homo about it? Secret boyfriends? Husbands with 6 monkey kids? An Old man and a grumpy Skeleton making it work? Literally just platonic friends? Dude, you can do whatever you want.Â
The tragedy of these two losing each other to one big horrible event crushes me. It influences my every move in my creative work. I have an entire character dedicated to reuniting these two in the most astronomical and ridiculous way possible because the alchemist angered the gods but she thinks he needs some company in his eternal punishment.
I want Clayton to unlock Alâs less serious, more fun side. I want them to work together. I want them to hold hands. GHGHGHDFBG UTTHTYE CNAZSNT EBCV ASUA ER
7. The girl power duo
Characters: Nova, Jinmay
Type: Familial
Explanation: These two were my only comfort during the uncomfortable nightmare that is âThe Hills Have Fiveâ
Nova was the one who trained Jinmay, and it seems like they hang out a lot offscreen in season 4. They fulfill the early 2000â˛s cartoon archetypes of girl and Girl, so theyâre supposed to get along. If they didnât I probably wouldnât like Jinmay.
Nova is a really good big sister/parental figure to Jinmay, who never had any family to speak of.Â
Anyway, this entry has to be shorter because most of their bonding is in âThe Hills Have Fiveâ which is either #1 or #2 in my least favorite episode list. Not because itâs bad, but because it makes me viscerally uncomfortable. I really wish literally any other character than Jinmay was in her role in that episode. Or that the âtaken to an offscreen area by an adult man while she screamsâ just wasnât there. SHEâS 13!!! Nova did literally all she could to help.Â
I really like that scene in questionable where Valeena kills almost the entire gang. Itâs what they deserve.
Look I just really like Jinmay and I always have. She deserves a good Mom.
8. "My Second In Commandâ
Characters: Antauri, Mandarin
Type: Theoretical
Explanation: The fandom has really made this ship go from âliterally nothing to stand onâ to âintegral plot point in a lot of ficsâ. Seriously. I have TWO screenshots that vaguely imply these two ever stood next to each other on the battlefield. This was entirely title-based and fan-made until ProjectAfectivity interviewed Ciro. Yeah he knows Antauri but only as well as the rest of the team. Anyway. Wow. This ship.
This is by far the worst breakup in history. These two, despite what Antauri says, were on equal ground at some point. According to Ciro (and fan speculation), they trained together. This (and other Mandy ship) changes wildly depending on if you think Mandarin was corrupted by the portal or not. Maybe Mandarin was once a kind leader who just crossed the wrong boundaries and paid for it. He couldâve held Antauri gently before battle. He couldâve been the monkey Antauri went to when he needed someone to talk to. He couldâve hyped the team up like Chiro does.
Or maybe, they were constantly fighting against each other in small ways. An incredibly unhealthy relationship, yes, but an interesting story. I like stories where Antauri isnât this all-knowing pillar of stability. Heâs got weaknesses. One of them may have been Mandarin.
Now thatâs a good nickname from one to the other.
Imagine Antauri, in a moment of complete trust, declaring Mandarin his weakness. A sweet sentiment. They both know the other is incredibly strong, and trust that the other would never take advantage of that connection. They love each other. Until...
9. "My Closest Allyâ
Characters: Otto, Mandarin
Type: Theoretical
Explanation: Okay I'm looking at the screenshot I put for this entry while also having watched Evil Ages recently. My brain is making uncomfortable connections. Combine that with the fandom and the showâs general treatment of Otto and Iâm about to slam my head into a wall. I really do not like that, but I feel like thereâs somebody out there who does.Â
Anyway, this is Gibotto and Ottauri but with all the spice that shipping Mandarin with one of the other monkeys brings. When done well, itâs all the respecting Otto that comes with Ottauri and all the intimate partnership of Gibotto. And the Angst of Mantauri, but a lot more grounded.Â
It paints a lot of stories. A story of a single point of comfort in a world Mandarin thinks is out to get him. A story of powerful validation from the one authority in Ottoâs life. Of letting your guard down. Of trust, then breaking that trust.
Iâd LOVE to see some things with Mandottotauri because thatâs epic and cool and poggers. Donât see a lot, though.
10.The Hets, I guess.
Characters: Jinmay, Chiro.Â
Type: Romantic. Platonic. Canon.
Explanation: Look two entries on this list are polyamorous and four of them are mandarin so I have to say SOMETHING for the heteroes following me. Picked this ship over Spova because when I was a young child still suffering from comphet, I never watched the last episode of the show. I only saw up to season 3 at the most. This was the only canon ship for me. And out of all the ships, itâs the most relatable. Iâm currently a teenager with black hair who looks really good in eyeliner dating a girl with pink hair who can pick me up and is unbelievably sweet. Except weâre gay and polyam. Wait a second I totally had a crush on Jinmay as a kid and now my gf is the Jinmay in this situation. Oh my god I was going to make this comparison if I did Spova too and I liked Nova.
ANYWAY
These are two LONELY kids. Chiro had bullies during school, and now he doesnât even go to school. Jinmay hasnât really had friends at all. Two kids with places in their universe that they arenât too sure about, and just need someone to lean on. Their date was cute. They instantly bonded over their love of monkeys and I love that.Â
The super robot is sometimes an analog for Chiro, in the first two season at least, and the way the super robot held Jinmayâs hands to keep her steady on the COB while her head flew in was SO SWEET. Chiroâs instant recognition and reaction to Jinmayâs head being thrown at the team, as well. He really loves her.
I think itâd be interesting if she didnât love him back, though. I might take a stab at writing that.

How Entrapta Has Become My All Time Favourite Autistic Representation in Media: Long Version
Just so you know what to expect, this is more of a very long and boring personal post and less of a character analysis. By "very long", I mean "very long". Also, half of it was written at night when I was supposed to be sleeping (like, right now), so some parts might not even make sense. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Just days before I started to watch She-Ra, I answered a question in a writer group where someone asked what are the do's and don'ts of writing an autistic character. I've been told a couple of times in my life that I canât be autistic based on the fact that I'm not really interested in or good at science, so I think special interests of autistic people are something that definitely has to be presented better in media. So I advised this person to make their character have a special interest that's NOT related to science, technology, space or computers, because it's a very common misconception that people on the autism spectrum are always into these stuff, and there are so many autistic fictional characters based on this stereotype that I feel like we absolutely don't need any more.
And then I saw Entrapta.
I didn't know she's canonically autistic until a much later episode, but it didn't surprise me when I was told she is, because my autism radar went off like a hundred times while watching System Failure and all her other season 1 appearances (so did my ADHD radar, by the way, but as far as I know, this hasn't been confirmed by the creators, so it's just my headcanon). And she looked like the purple ponytails princess version of the autism stereotype that I didnât want to see any more of. The genius who is into space and robots, knows nothing about human relationships and keeps driving everyone nuts with her long and impossible-to-follow scientific monologues. Also cute and funny, yeah, but still, as someone on the spectrum who is super artistic and has nothing to do with science stuff, my first reaction was "dang, not this shit again." Just for once in my life, I wanted to see an autistic representation that's not just that typical weird tech-lover but a character that's at least a tiny bit more like me. Seeing her only in her first episode, little did I know that Entrapta's character has an incredible depth and her whole arc was going to be hair-raisingly personal to me (I know I'm not funny, but pun intended).
First, letâs talk about robots, because we can't talk about Entrapta without talking about robots. Entrapta builds robots just for fun, because technology is her thing, but there's actually a lot more behind this. Starting from as early as her debute episode, we see through the whole series that she creates robots with different designs, abilities, personalities, very similar to real people, as a sort of substitute for the human (or whatever species) company she'd wish to have. She even gives them names. She programs them to like being around her, to understand her, something that she hasn't really experienced from real people, which is sad enough on its own, but even sadder if we consider that she actually has human staff working at her fortress. She pretty literally makes friends, and she does it with the help of her special interest. And this totally reminds me of my primary school years when I had zero real friends and used my special interest, which was writing fictional stories and creating worlds/universes/languages in my head, to make up imaginary characters that could be my "friends" so that I wouldn't be that lonely.
Then, her interactions with other characters, especially with Hordak. Entrapta consoling Hordak in Huntara is a very powerful scene to me, not only what she says, but also how she says it. When Hordak starts venting about how he is a failure and all, Entrapta's first immediate response is to provide a practical solution, to design an armor for him, and comforting him with words is only a secondary action. She's helping in her own way, with technology, because that's what she's the best at, but she also wants to make sure he understands that fixing imperfections isn't always the solution, embracing them is. I also love how it's hinted with the "loved" crystal that Entrapta's love language may be acts of service (and probably quality time as well), which is another thing we have in common. And there's another thing in that scene I found very relatable: that part when she stops consoling him and starts to talk about herself being a failure instead. In real life, most people would read that in a negative way. I've been in many situations where I've tried doing something similar to people who were venting to me, and normally, they're like "ew, I'm the one complaining now, stop making it about you." But Hordak's reaction is different, all he does is try to tell her she's not a failure before she shushes him, then he just listens. He understands what Entrapta means by saying all those things about herself isn't "hey, look, my life is also horrible, so I get to complain, too" but rather "I feel you, we're the same". For a person who thinks and acts as differently from average people as Entrapta does, connecting with someone through similar experiences and feelings is a huge thing, and this is so relatable to me that I cried like a baby while watching that scene. Also, kudos to Christine Woods for making Entrapta's monologue sound so factual and casual. It really gives the impression of someone who is fully aware of her own strengths and weaknesses and accepts herself as a whole with all her flaws. The way she lists all the things that make her feel like a failure right after saying "imperfection is beautiful" is just... wow. But seriously, this whole "imperfection is beautiful" thing in general is such a clichĂŠ that it's not even supposed to work on me, but hell it does, because it's so well-presented that it's actually one of the most powerful moments of the whole series. Entrapta giving me self-acceptance lessons is all I've ever needed in my life (Hordak probably agrees, lol).
Speaking of self-acceptance, I also love how Beast Island shows that it's a long and difficult process with its ups and downs instead of just a door you walk through once in your life and then stay on the other side forever. Even if I accept and love myself the way I am, it's still totally normal to have low points with thoughts like "I'm not suited for friendship" or "everyone leaves me behind". And it's very nice and uplifting to have someone's love and support when I'm in a bad mood with stuff like this on my mind, but personally, I often find it easier to deal with if I have something related to any of my special interests around that I can focus my thoughts on. My "we flew here on an ancient First Ones ship, do you wanna see it?" would be something like "do you wanna create some characters and then write the shit out of them?" and before this show I've never actually realised how neurodiverse it is to use a hobby or interest for self-care like this. The "definitely the ship" part called me out so hard, and I just adore how the writers were able put so much meaning into a single joke line.
Back to interactions, there's also something painfully relatable in the way the other princesses treat Entrapta. Even in the beginning in No Princess Left Behind, but mostly in season 4 and 5. In most cases, Entrapta is only considered to be worthy enough to not be left behind in situations when her skills are useful. Other characters "liking" her isn't really about herself as a person but her tech knowledge. Just like when you go to school and the only reason your classmates want to make friends with you is because you always do your homework and let others copy it, or you're good at explaining stuff and are willing to help people getting prepared for tests/exams. When I was in grammar school, my classmates ignored me or mocked me for liking animation and comics, but every now and then they did the bare minimum of treating me like a human being and expected me to do their arts homework in return, because I was the only one in my class who was good at arts. When I studied linguistics at the uni, I was really into phonology and historical linguistics, and those were the compulsory subjects most of the other students were struggling with, so many people wanted to hang out with me just to make sure they could get my notes before the exams. The same people kept calling me nerd and making fun of me behind my back. I also had a few genuine friends, which I'm grateful for, but I still know what it feels like to be needed only for a specific skill while not being noticed and respected as a person, and Launch portraits this experience in a very clever way. It's so amazing to see how the princesses realise who Entrapta really is and start to treat her as someone who just thinks differently instead of someone who's a deliberate bad person. They finally get to see that she's not just an unwary tech nerd, but also a determined, caring and loyal friend who gives others so much love in her own geeky way and deserves love, too. But I shouldn't even be surprised, I mean, we're talking about a show that teaches us "you worth more than what you can give to other people," and it's great how this message applies to other characters as well, not only to Adora. And the best part is that this whole conflict is not presented as something black and white, it's not like Entrapta is the poor misunderstood autistic person and the princesses are the evil allistic bad guys who mistreat her. It's simply a miscommunication between neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals, and while the other princesses get to understand that they hurt Entrapta by their actions and that they should be more respectful of her, Entrapta also realises that she's made mistakes and hurt people, becomes aware of her own bad habits and makes efforts to get rid of them in order to save Glimmer. Plus I also love the faint implication that most of the princesses never really, genuinely, 100% make friends with Entrapta even after this scene, because sometimes people just don't resonate with each other enough to become close friends, but they learn to accept her differences and treat her with respect, nonetheless. This episode is so full of realistic interactions and character development it blows my mind every time I rewatch it.
I could just go on and on about all those tiny relatable details such as "I've waited years for someone to ask me about my theories!" I think this was the line that first made me fall in love with Entrapta's character. I mean, if someone from the crew wrote this line, that means they might know the feeling, too, so I'm not the only dork who feels this way every time someone asks me a question about my hyperfixations. And it's just so reassuring. Entrapta has many lines of the kind, they're not even important plotwise, but still super relatable and validating.
Now that we're here, and I know that I probably should have said this at the beginning of the post, but I'm too lazy to rewrite the first paragraph accordingly, I'd like to note that these are all my own interpretations and reflections on Entrapta's character based on my own experiences. This whole thing is totally personal, and I don't want anyone to think that this is how Entrapta is supposed to be seen by the whole fandom. So yeah, that's pretty much it for now.

About Me
OKAY SO Idk how to start talking about this but itâs important to me so HERE WE GO. TW: Iâm talking about myself, who I am as a person, which includes my anxiety/depression/PTSD/and diagnosis of ADHD and Autism/ASD. I want people to understand me more as a person <3 I want to make friends, and I want people to not be afraid of me or unsure how to approach me. So read more if you wanna know about me!
I feel like people get scared to approach me or speak to me when I tell them these labels about myself. Iâm on the spectrum, I have ADHD, I have anxiety & depression, I have PTSD. Theyâre all connected, and theyâre all apart of me, but they donât define me. Those are just things that I happen to struggle with.
About a month ago (the beginning of January 2021), I was officially diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. Iâm a 26 year old cisgender woman, so it took a really long time for professionals to actually want to diagnose me. The things they tend to look at when deciding if someone fits on the spectrum are based on tests they did on cisgender boys in the 90â˛s, so itâs all pretty outdated.Â
Anyways, I was also diagnosed with ADHD when I was 11 years old, so a lot of my âautisticâ tendencies were written off as being apart of my ADHD for a long time. But it was SO NICE to finally be told that yes, I am on the spectrum, because it was something I already KNEW, and now Iâm validated.Â
But thatâs the thing about autism, like ADHD, or anxiety, or depression, or bipolar disorder, itâs all a spectrum. What triggers one person might not affect another. So I canât speak for everyone who has these things, but I can speak for myself. And I kind of wanna talk about what itâs like for ME as a person.Â
I want SO BADLY to be the fun bubbly girl at parties who is all sunshine and rainbows. I want to be an extravert SO MUCH. I always thought I was, growing up. I wanted to go to the fair, to theme parks, to the mall, just like everyone else. But we always joked that I was âallergic to fun,â because once we were at those places, my excitement would die and I would end up ânot feeling good.â I never knew how to put it into words, because I didnât know what about me didnât feel good. I would just, shut down? And sometimes this would result in headaches, irritability, anger, sadness, and the general feeling of being overwhelmed. As an adult looking back, I now know that I was overstimulated and needed a break away from the noise and lights. And I have a lot of deep-rooted anger towards myself about this, because I want so badly to be normal and to enjoy those things, you know?Â
As an adult I struggle with shopping at Walmart because itâs so loud and thereâs so many people and so much space. But I found that if I wear my Bluetooth headphones (whether Iâm listening to music or not), it helps. I can focus on my shopping list and feel relatively normal for a bit. I donât struggle to calm down once I get home, either, because Iâm already feeling okay.Â
I collect weird things. Well, they arenât weird, but people sometimes think Iâm weird for them. I collect stickers, buttons, pins, and badges. My car is COVERED in stickers. My desktop is COVERED in stickers (all CM ones of course). I have buttons and pins on my purse, my bag, on the ceiling of my car- itâs ridiculous lol. And this has ALWAYS been something Iâve collected. I still have a hanging mirror that I got when I was 9 years old that I covered in those Hot Topic bunny stickers (you know the ones, I hope). I have ballcaps covered in pins. I donât do anything with the badges, I just have them in a box.Â
Also the amount of stuffed animals I own??? Thank GOD my husband loves me because I have Too Much(TM). I sleep with three, but on top of our dogs kennel is a pile thatâs taller than me if it were on the floor. Then thereâs a whole collection of PokĂŠmon stuffed animals on top of the dresser. More in a bag in the closet. And even more under the bed. Did I mention that I am REALLY GOOD at claw machine games? Everyone always doubts my abilities when they meet me, so I always have to show them by winning one or two new stuffed animals to prove my point. Most of our collection is from claw machines lol.Â
ANYWAYS thatâs all off topic. I guess what Iâm trying to say is that Iâm not scary, or (too) weird, or going to act strange when talking to you. My autism shows itself in how I react in public places, in what I like to collect, and when Iâm EXTREMELY happy. You might have heard of the term âflappingâ before, but I donât really think thatâs what I do?? IDK, just when I get so happy, my arms kind of tingle, like the happiness is filled to the brim in my body and I need a way to let it âexplodeâ out of me. So I shake my hands and I giggle/laugh/squeal (Jake, my husband, thinks my squealing is really cute). And when it comes to stimming, I tend to bite my nails A LOT, so I have to chew on gum or something. I also use my hands a lot, so I play with my wedding ring or bracelets or hair ties a lot.Â
But thatâs all me. I canât speak for how other people act/react/feel when it comes to stuff. I can only speak for me <3 And Iâm trying every single day to be a better and happier person. Iâm trying to make friends and write my stories and just be a kind human being.Â
SO, you wanna be friends?Â
#Sarah Rambles#autism#adhd#anxiety#depression#ptsd#about me#I didn't wanna touch on my PTSD and anxiety/depression this time but i might another time#it's all linked to childhood stuff#but I'm okay and happy now!#and I cope by hurting characters I love lmao#and making OC's

yâall asked, i deliver! hereâs some more fic recs now that valentinesâ day is starting to encroach:
Music of the Night by @novapple
i am constantly BEGGING people to use newt being musical in their fics more and THIS is proof of how excellent a canon concept it is because: MY TWO JOYS: newt being musical AND the precursors letting him play music sometimes and him using that as a coping mechanism during and after. also, like, the writing style is really crisp and clear and has an EXCELLENT voice in terms of newtâs characterization both before and after uprising, and thatâs not easy to do in the same fic
Bear Your Neighborâs Burden Within Reason
this whole series is really good but as someone whoâs recently physically disabled myself, i fucking appreciate a fic that gets hermannâs disability right AND has newt be a good abled ally. not ONCE do we get a forced-feeling pity party or newt having to âlearn a valuable lessonâ about autonomy or whatever; from the getgo heâs polite, respectful, and still a fucking moron who i love. like, if youâre a ho for touch starvation and characters being each othersâ rocks, this is for YOU. AND it doesnât fall into the trope you think it does when you read the description, which was a genuinely interesting and very in character decision. the whole authorâs newmann tag is really really good, including, like. some straight up excellent spicy stuff, so set aside some time to go through it all.
The Six Million Pillows Man by @callmealois on twitter
bro straight up this is so fucking cute why donât people write more hermann with pillows.Â
newton geiszler, oblivious moron extraordinaire by @three-black-cats
SORRY BUGABOO IT WAS TOO GOOD I HAD TO INCLUDE ITTTTTT. this is like, a fucking MASTERCLASS in pining. jesus christ. if you like fics where NOBODY has the brain cell, sit your ass down and bone appetit. like charles i KNOW itâs self indulgent i ENCOURAGE this kind of behavior from you because IT TURNS OUT SHIT LIKE THIS.
the truth about me (and the truth about you) by @buttfucknowhere-spaceville
genuinely the most interesting and original take on the âamnesia fake marriedâ trope EVER iâm not kidding. like, you will not expect where this fic goes, but itâs a GENIUS writing choice thatâs SO fucking funny and clears up any weird messy consent issues while leading to an ending thatâs really emotionally impactful and satisfying. oh, and did i mention this is the first fic maryâs written in EIGHT YEARS. WHAT THE FUCK MAN. genuinely got me into the trope now.
Sequitur
whoever realized that the logical extension of the drift hangover trope would be hermann getting newtâs adhd is a fucking GENIUS. someone do this with hermannâs autism.
Bump in the Night (NSFW)
i didnât know you could write 8,000 words of slow burn awkward sex pollen phone sex based off the one joke line everyone always ribs newt about but apparently you can to extremely funny results.
Music, When Soft Voices Die by @kscientific
fun fact, i actually sang the song the title is from in middle school choir. anyway this is extremely cute and newt and hermann playing piano together needs to be a WAY more popular trope because this fic SOLD me.
The Stretch and Pull of Disused Hearts
this one was actually recommended to me by @skepticamoeba over on twitter, and i read it all in one sitting because it was. SO GOOD. another extremely well done depiction of hermannâs disability, and i actually really like newtâs development here in learning how to express how he wants to help hermann without coming off wrong. i admit, yeah, sometimes itâs really fucking hard to do the shit you need to do to take care of yourself, especially when spoons are in short supply, and even though hermann is technically doing the unhealthy thing here, you never feel annoyed with him because heâs written to be so so empathetic. like, yeah, thereâs a fucking WAR going on! and physical limitations suck to think about! everybody gets a character arc here, and the angst and pining is HORRIFYING and so so good. if youâve ever had to drag yourself out of bed at 3am to fix a 32 BG by chugging orange juice straight from the bottle while sweating like a christmas pig and about to pass out in the middle of the kitchen before furiously shoving pretzels and nutella in your mouth because your body is on the verge of severe hypoglycemia, or, yâknow, something along the lines of that, this is for YOU.
hey jealousy by @provokiing (NSFW)
iâm fucking cryign i hate gay people so much i really do. raleigh becket RIGHTS nothing but respect for my king of allies.
oh and obviously read 3 Times Newt Was a Bad Diabetic + 1 Time Hermann Was a Good One to stan good taste and dr. anako flaerty

The Great Peter Infodump of March 2020
yo @brackets-and-woolly-hats @mijaco-geo and @mike-nesmith-for-mayor I have recently been informed that yall would really like me to infodump about Peter and I want to thank yall because I think if I held it in any longer I would explode
Also thanks to the coolcherrycream articles and various interviews that I learnt all these from in the 5-ish months Iâve been thinking about the monkees for
But before I start going hnngggg Peter I would like to warn you that despite my tone this is going to contain some heavy stuff. Weâre talking brief mentions of blood, and suicide and death so be careful about that
This is gonna get hella long so *cracks knuckles* letâs begin
Childhood
letâs start from the very beginning: a very good place to start
Friday, 13th February one bb was born and he would always say that Friday the 13th was a lucky day for years onwards
He was born with a lot of diversity in his parentage
Heâs Irish and German-Jewish on his motherâs side and Norwegian on his dadâs side
Speaking of Jewishness (is that a word???) I rememeber an article saying that he used to randomly say Hebrew words in interviews and I think he taught Mike how to say something too?? I dont know
Peter was a very friendly boy even when he was just a toddler cus he would drag any new friend he had home
Anyway, he was born in Washington DC
Once on Christmas he went missing and his mum and grams panicked and looked all over the house for him
Turns out he was just waiting at lampost in the snow because he wanted to make sure that Santa would bring him a present
Speaking of Grams, when he was 3 (i think im doing this from memory) he was at a post office with his mother when she came in.
He got uber excited and shouted âTHATâS MY GRAMS. HER NAME IS CAIT!â
And so everyone turned to look at her and he squealed
He would also often ride on the top part double deck buses and whenever the bus slowed down, he would wave to nearby people and say âHI MY NAMEâS PETER WHATâS YOUR?â to which those people who wave back and sometimes answer him. I mean, wouldnât you?
Also he started to play with pianos when he was 3 and also he liked dancing so thatâs cute
One of his first memories was of being at the hospital where his brother Nick (who they called Nicky and thatâs what Iâm going to call him) was born
Soon after Nicky was born they moved to Germany Yeet. He was 4 and the time and Nicky was like 18 months or smth
Germany
Right so I dont know why people dont talk about this part of his childhood because like,,,itâs interesting??
In Germany they had two maids
They had to put sugar in every food so that Peter and Nicky would actually eat the strange German food
He became very fluent in German and would help his mother with translations
He was also fluent in French for some reason
Someone made a statue of his 4 year old head and it became a famous minor art piece that featured in calendars
It probably now sits in his house because I saw in in the background of the short documentary that his son, Ivan Ivanoli made about him which you sould check btw
Anyway, when Peter was 5 he made his first official best friend Ule who was two years older than him
Once when he was playing hide and seek with Nicky he ran at full force at a closed glass door that he thought was open, shattering it, and getting a shard into his arm. Reasonably he screamed
Apparently, he was hurt a major artery and would have bled to death if not for someone being in the house to call a doctor
Once he was out and about wandering around, as you would do if you were Peter when he was stopped by some official looking guy from going back into his own house.
Itâs important to note that Peter looked very much like a German boy and would ONLY talk in German outside. God knows why he did this. Reasonably, the dude thought he was lying and he had to call for his mum
Anyway, in Germany school starts when youâre five but his birthday was in the middle of the school year so his parents sent him in early which set him up for some outcasted child syndrome later
And then the moved back to America yeet
AMERICA (LAND OF CAPITALISM)
So he moved back into America but it didnât stop there. No. They had to move around like a 100 different times and as someone who went to a total of 4 different schools (so far oh no) that sets you up with outcasted child syndrome. What also sets you up with outcasted child syndrome is if youâre an undiagnosed neurodivergent which Peter seemed to think he was when he was in his 50s (either ADHD or autism) so uhh keep that in mind
So he was in school and as mentioned earlier he was a year younger than his peers so thatâs fun
He was very very clever. Often he would finish his work first and his (4th grade) teacher would make do some reading or creative writing. She encouraged him to do creative writing because she saw some talent in there
Not only was he acadmically gifted, but he was also musically gifted. Playing not only the piano (which he got lessons for) but also the guitar, the banjo, the bass, and the french horn which he got an award for when he was in highschool playing in a band made out of college students for some reason
Speaking of awards, he was once given an award for maths
This giftedness would later set him up for Gifted Child Burnout he had in college
Also he changed schools like a total of 13 times so thatâs fun
He went to a private school but apparentl, according to his parents, he hated it (but he remembered liking it???)
Also, he made a lot of jokes in class
Remember Nicky? Yeah, Nicky would often write songs for him to sing and stuff (Nicky would later write songs for Peterâs solo album and a bunch of other stuff what a great brother we stan)
The family had some kind of barn once where he would do puppet shows his siblings
Anyway, school life was all fine and dandy until 5th grade hit and he changed schools and everyone lost interest in him because he was one year younger
Also his dad was apparently very disconnected with him. Needless to say, Peter felt like his father didnât like him
Once when he was 9, he told his father that he noticed that when the clouds were around at night, it would be warmer during the day to which his father shouted at him saying that âhe has no proof of thatâ and that he shouldnât say anything without proof
This of course led him to feel like no one wanted to listen to what he wanted to say
poor baby
I think his father would have been the reason why Peter would later say in an interview that he hated âloud abusivenessâ the most
He would also later say that a combination of his dad and feeling like he was weird and different would lead him to his drinking problem
So umm we dont stan his dad ok
Once when he was 13 he picked up a loaded shotgun and put it against his head. But he decided that he didnât want to do it at the last second.
Overall, life from 5th grade till highschool was terrible for him
He didnât have any friends in his school
So when he moved to a new school in Conneticut where he was surrounded with people of the same age, he was really happy all the way until college where he flunked out twice
Hippie Time (Honestly this part is just me talking about him and Stephen Stills because Steter Stirk changed me)
And so Peter became a hippie in Greenwich Village
In the Village, he became a sort of entertainer. Not just singing and playing, he was also a comedian.Â
And then he kept hearing about this dude who looked like him from other people.
This dude turned out to be Stephen who was also hearing the same kind of talk for about the same amount of time
Pete and Stephen VIBED im not kidding they started to play with each other and also Stephenâs room mate who was also there
Also it turns out that they liked to talk about the same things so thatâs neat
Peter went to Venuzuela apparently and when he came back the Monkee thing happened yeet
Once when Stephen was waiting to move into his new house Peter was all like âhey dude live with meâ
For a while they also lived in the same house when he was Monkee and if that doesnât fuel any ship fics I dont know what will
Im serious the ship is here and its real I saw fics and fanart
Dont ask about Stirk
They played with the colour tv and would âpick apart each otherâs brainsâ umm
Also Peterâs favourite band was buffalo springfield and we stan a friend who would say your band was their favourite band
And I think this is where my knowledge starts to fade because I havenât really heard any cool facts from here on afterwards
Last Final Cool Facts
He was a teacher for quite a while and taught about Maths, basketball (despite not liking any sport except swimming) and Easter Philosophy,,,yes easter philosphy the man was into that kinda stuff
Also he was a big reader. Always having a smoll book in his pocket that he would read while on set with the Monkees. But he was particularly a non fic kinda guy
He would write poetry on the back of scripts
In the 2000s he said that his sister thought he might have ADD
Also autism but when asked about it heâd be all P E R H A P S
which is very unhelpful Peter pls give us a straight answer
I mean he cant give us straight answers because he was the gayest monkee (he fricked a dude once but he didnât like it)
Hey look I ended on a gay note yeet. Thanks for reading this mess
#the monkees#peter tork#blood tw#death ment tw#suicide tw#i think that's all the tws#im finally free of this knowlege#i feel so good#just wait till i come back with a truck of knowledge in 5 months

Dear Journal, Here is a Boring Infodump
Journal 2
I have no idea what to write in this journal exactly, so here is a collection of random thoughts I want to say for some reason.
1. Sometimes I wish people would talk about countries other than the US, the UK or Australia on international news. Iâm very happy your various causes are being supported, but I just find Iâve come to a very dry acceptance that barely anything from the Philippines ever gets talked about here. Takes a bit for me to be angry, but the pandemic has pushed me more into frustration somehow. So now I actually feel somewhat irritated enough about it to write it here.
2. I feel stressed from 2020, and the New Year hasnât changed that much. But I guess thatâs not that different from everyone else here. Hmm, well Iâm no great speaker who can give you an emotional speech, but I figured I can offer solutions where people can just give encouragement (which I still appreciate, mind you, not being great at stuff like this.) So I suggest looking up resource sites and search terms like. . .Â
A. Psychology Today
B. Verywell Mind
C. Relaxing music/Nature sounds/ASMR
D. Relaxation techniques
E. Anxiety/Depression apps list
F. CBT/ACT/DBT
E. Affirmations
F. Motivational Quotes
G. List of Anxiety, Depression, and Stress Management blogs
H. Greater Good in Action
I. Free Science of Happiness university course on Edx
J. 7 Cups of Tea - a site to vent anonymously in live chats to volunteer listeners, if you donât want to volunteer yourself.
K. Grounding techniques -- great if you feel numb or dissociated.
L. Mindfulness techniques list
M. Journaling prompts
N. Thought Traps
O. Stand up comedy / jokes
P. Random online fun facts, or researching random info youâre curious about. Look up sites to learn new things, or educational Youtube channels for example.Â
Q. Spirituality resources, if this helps you.
R. Looking up famous people for role models.
S. Watching dominoes falling videos.
T. Listening to jazz, lofi music or classical music does it for me. I enjoyed the Lofi series for fantasy stuff on Youtube. âLofi music for ghosts.â âLofi music for witches.â âLofi music for vampires.â âLofi music for mermaids.â It has such a mix of sci fi and fantasy elements with the electronic music playing this type of music, but oh well.Â
U. Looking at art. There are free online museums even if you look. I like the Youtube channels Drawfree and Chloe Art though. That or creating your own art.Â
V. Watching Film reviews. Like on the Take (Screenprism) on Youtube, Nerdwriter1, Wisecrack, The Film Theorists, and more.
W. Looking up a list of personal development blogs online, and just searching through them for random advice.
X. Watching cute animals, and other cute stuff online.
Y. Joining one of those depression or mental health forums online, maybe a general one or focused on a specific mental health issue.
Z. Reading books, of course.Â
3. Iâd say if you want to know a bit more about my therapy history for some context. . . well, I have dysthymia, which is a type of mild depression, but it takes a longer period of time to be diagnosed than major depression. That is, more than 2 years. GAD or General Anxiety Disorder. Itâs not a mental illness as people imagine, (Itâs a neurodevelopmental condition, which is an intellectual, not emotional difference. Though of course emotional illnesses can happen with it), and Iâm on the autism spectrum. Specifically twice exceptional (Giftedness + neurodiversity condition), which is apparently the more polite way to say it than savant. Iâm not stressed much about it though. Filipinos, at least here in the city in Manila, donât bully much around neurodiversity types like autism, ADHD, dyslexia or anything about that.Â
This country has a lot of problems, but ableism doesnât seem to be one of them, from my personal experience. Just know if I sound a bit rude from my directness, Iâm trying my best. Iâm bisexual and non binary, though that personally wasnât much of a problem growing up in Metro Manila, the Filipino capital, which is the most liberal of the Philippines. Not sure why in places like the US or the UK, the situation seems worse, but I donât know much enough to comment. The middle class to upper class in the Philippines tends to be more liberal than the poor or working class, which is strangely the opposite in America, I hear? Not that there was 0% no bullying, whether by people my age or adults, but people are generally just casually supportive. It might help though that while I prefer them/they pronouns, I donât mind being called both he or she much. Why am I depressed and why for so long? Not sure. I have a lot of accomplishments and talents with giftedness, but I just. . . donât seem happy that much. (Look up Dabrowskiâs overexcitablities or the Your Rainforest Mind blog for more mental health info with giftedness.)Â
4. Iâm not suicidal or anything, but the world just seems to be somewhat grayscale all the time. Would be nice if I was a bit more enthusiastic about this, but oh well. I am more depressed than I am anxious. I am definitely âsadâ, but I donât seem to get as much anxious as other people. I definitely am often nervous, but I donât scare as easily as most? Guess thatâs why Iâve been watching horror games on Youtube, with Markiplierâs 3 scary games playlist. I donât know why, but in small doses, horror games are a release. I feel so numb, but instead of doing something harmful like self harm or something else, horror just. . . makes me feel alive somehow. Both excited, afraid and full of thrill. I feel in a way, a lot of suppressed fears come to the surface, like letting tears flow out, but for anxiety instead of sadness.Â
5. I feel like I have a life of extremes. Full of a lot of big accomplishments, and big problems tied all together. In some ways I am discriminated. In other ways I am disadvantaged. When people talk about privilege or minorities and stuff, I just get confused how I should see myself. But oh well. I guess. . . thatâs just depression for you. A bit unpleasant both parties of those extremes seem to be fighting a lot though, which is a lot more uncomfortable to watch if you ask me. Not sure how to describe it. I canât seem to see both sides in an us vs them standpoint, where one side is 100% my allies and the other side is 100% my enemies, but oh well.Â
6. I am aware from a rational standpoint, I have many strengths, but my depression doesnât seem to realize that much. So while I describe how my emotions feel, know that Iâve had enough therapy to see the situation logically, which makes things somewhat better, but doesnât stop the emotions entirely for some reason.
